I’m going to let you gals in on a little secret – I’m what many would call a “crunchy mama.” You know, one of those women who had her babies at home, uses essential oils, tried cloth diapers, and does weird things like oil pulling and the “no-poo method” to clean her hair.
A few years ago, when I was pregnant with my first little girl, I wanted to learn everything I could about taking care of myself and my baby. When I started diving into the information on conventional makeup and skincare, I was honestly a little bit shocked! I had NO idea that all the beauty products I’d used for years could have such a negative impact on my health (or my baby’s!)
Did you know….
- Our skin is our largest organ, absorbing as much as 60% of the products we use into our bloodstream
- Harsh chemicals often used in beauty products, like parabens and butylated compounds, are known to disrupt hormones, contribute to cancer and cause premature aging (you can check out a full list of some of the most harmful makeup and skincare ingredients to avoid here).
Well let me tell you, that made me think twice about what I was putting on my face in the name of beauty! The challenge is that, as with anything, better quality can often come at a higher price tag.
So, I was faced with two options:
- Stop using makeup and skincare altogether. (As if!)
- Find a company that created products without all the yucky stuff that was also affordable.
There are many companies out there who create awesome, natural makeup and skincare products, but I want to share one of my favorites with you today – 100% Pure.
Here’s why 100% Pure beauty products totally ROCK:
- 100% natural
- NO fragrances
- NO synthetic chemical preservatives
- NO harmful toxins
And here’s a fun fact – instead of using yucky, chemical-laden dyes, all of 100% Pure products are fruit pigmented. How cool is that?! The crunchy mom in me was SO excited to try some of these fun goodies.
Here are a few 100% Pure products I tried recently, all of which I’m totally LOVING (and think you will to!)
- Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream
- Maracuja Mascara: Black Tea
- Fruit Pigmented Pomegranate Oil Anti Aging Lipstick: Foxglove
Ok, I’ve only been using this little gem for just over a week but already I am noticing a definite difference in puffiness and my dark, dark under-eye circles. Which is a big deal, am I right mamas?!
Upon further research, I discovered that the cream contains green tea and coffee extract, which both help with inflammation, as well as anti-aging vitamins and rosehip oil that help skin look brighter and younger. Yes please, sign me up!
Oh, and did I mention that it smells beyond delicious?! I love that I can dab a bit around my eyes before putting my concealer on and looking like I actually got a full night’s sleep (hey, they say fake it till you make it, don’t they!)
I’ll be the first to admit, I was skeptical about this product because I’m extremely picky about mascaras. I don’t know why, I’m just really hard to impress. Even though I’d made the switch to other healthier beauty products prior to trying 100% Pure, I just couldn’t find a mascara that I liked! So I’ve literally been using the same Maybelline Great Lash mascara for years.
Let me tell you, this mascara is seriously the bees knees! It’s colored with black tea leaves, berry and cocoa pigments and, although it’s not waterproof, it is a bit water resistant (I found removing it with coconut oil to be the most effective).
The best part is that it’s 100% natural, 100% Vegan, gluten free and contains maracuja oil, pro-vitamin B5 and other conditioners that actually strengthen your lashes, making your lashes themselves healthier!
I’ve never been a super big lipstick gal, opting more often for a simple chapstick or gloss. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve enjoyed playing around with more lipsticks. I prefer nude and pink colors most, which is why I love the Foxglove shade of this lipstick.
It’s a really nice texture and makes my lips feel nice and moisturized, due to the pomegranate oil and shea butter. It’s colored from fruit pigments which also makes it smell delicious (like every 100% Pure product, I’m gathering!!)
So there you have it! There are about a million reasons why making the switch from conventional to natural, organic beauty products should be next on your to-do list, and I hope introducing you to this amazing company will make the transition just a little bit easier to navigate.
I truly believe we shouldn’t be forced to choose between the fun of playing with makeup and maintaining our health. So, cheers to companies that actually care about their consumers and the environment! 100% Pure, you rock.
