For many weeks I have been feeling restless. Keenly aware that something was shifting in my heart and in my life, but still in the dark about what exactly it was.
God knew, of course. After all, He is the one who hand-knit my very being together, so he would know.
For months I have been hustling, pouring every last ounce of everything in me into everything and everyone else around me.
I am what they call a “productive” person, gifted with the ability to take time and maximize it to the fullest.
I am that person you call when you just need to get something done.
Throughout the last several years of motherhood, it has served me well. Keeping up with four babies in five short years has pushed me to be adaptable and learn how to run my life and my household with efficiency.
When I started this blog , it was with the intention of sharing from my own journey and answering the question I feel has been on repeat for the last several years of my life:
How do you do it?!
But here’s the funny thing. As I started turning my life inside out to teach and coach other wives and mamas through how to make the most of their time, run their households more effectively and thrive in their roles…..I was losing my own mojo behind the scenes!
Somehow dishes were staying piled in the sink and loads upon loads of clean laundry were staying unfolded on the floor for days.
Homeschool lessons were skipped for a day and then another day, and bills missed being paid.
Actual weeks passed without me so much as saying one word to many family members and friends in my “real” life.
I was so busy shuffling from one task to the next, to the next again, trying to get #allthethings done – and I was failing miserably.
It’s not a pleasant thing to feel like you’ve mastered something enough to teach it to others, only to fall flat on your face as you get out on the dance floor.
But I’m learning that these moments are where the real learning begins.
So there I found myself, a few short weeks ago, feeling more than a little used up, way beyond a little poured out and completely lost in how to move forward with this whole thing.
It’s not that I didn’t still believe in the value behind my mission – to inspire and equip wives and moms to flourish in their marriage, motherhood and homemaking.
But something was missing. Something just wasn’t quite adding up.
See, we live in a day and age where there is no shortage of information or opinions. When we perceive a lack or excess of something in our lives, or want to learn how to fix, change or do something, all we have to do is pop a word or question into Pinterest and – BAM! We have a whole library of resources readily available at our fingertips.
And it all centers around us doing more.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of doing more.
What if the secret to more peace, more purpose and more joy is actually embracing more grace and less of everything else? What if the secret to more peace, purpose and joy is actually embracing more grace and less of… Click To Tweet
What if we were never meant to try to “fix” #allthethings in our lives?
What if we started walking in the grace that God has already so freely extended to us, and started focusing more on being and less on doing?
Here is what I know to be true.
There is a real enemy out there. An enemy that wants to see you fail. He wants to see you fall flat on your face. He wants to eat you up, from the inside out. He doesn’t want to see you thrive – he wants to see your soul die.
And when we are lacking peace in our lives…..it’s because we have given our enemy a seat at our table.
When that happens, the lies start pouring in.
“You’ll never get through this.”
“You’ll never make it.”
“Things will never change.”
“You’re not good enough.”
“You’re not acceptable the way you are.”
“Everyone is against you.”
“You might as well give up.”
And when we let these lies plant roots, it’s not long before our soul really does begin to wither and we are rendered ineffective at our own lives.
So, here’s what I propose.
I propose that we make a bit of a shift. You may have noticed that things look and sound a little different around here.
Have you ever heard the Coco Chanel saying, “A women who cuts her hair is about to change her life”?
Well friends, this community has just gotten a fabulous new hair cut!
Here is what I’m truly interested in, at the end of the day.
I want to see you and me grow into everything God has planned for us, by His grace and strength.
I want to see us walking in freedom, resting in peace and confident in joy and hope.
I want to see us embrace, accept and love who we are, just as we are, the same way the Creator of the Universe does every moment of every day.
I want to see us stop all the madness of hustling and striving and stressing, and trade it all in for real, restorative peace and purpose and joy.
And here’s the deal. Here is what I’ve learned:
Peace will grow in our lives as we work it out and share our progress through the process.
No more focusing solely on the finished product that we are heading toward. In order to really learn and grow and change and maintain peace, we have to embrace our raw, gritty, not-so-perfect process.
I want us to get intentional together about creating some margin in our lives to actively pursue the things we really need more of.
It’s not time, it’s not money, it’s not stuff, it’s not people. It’s grace and peace that we need. It's not more time, money, space, stuff or people that we need. It's more grace and peace. Click To Tweet
Grace is that thing that tells us that we are enough – that we have all we need. It’s neither earned nor bought, but something freely given to us that we can in turn give to ourselves and others.
Peace isn’t just what we feel when things are quiet, calm and working in our favor.
Peace is that thing that enables us to stay calm, have faith and keep hope amidst all the noise and chaos going on around or within us.
We can’t always change our circumstances or surroundings, but we can change our perspective, our attitude, and our behavior.
Which is exactly what I’d like to invite you to join me in doing for a period of 10 days starting tomorrow.
We’ll call it the #10DayPeacePursuit Challenge and over these 10 days we are going to get intentional about choosing to cultivate more peace, more purpose and more joy in our everyday lives – together!
The need is obvious, and the assignment is super simple. All you need to do is pop your name and email in the box below then show up and tune in for less time than it takes to watch your favorite show on Netflix.
If anything that I’ve shared has resonated in your heart, please make sure to sign up for this free 10-day challenge.
I promise it will be so worth your precious, valuable time and that I will bring my best to the table if you are willing to just show up.
Your life and your soul are so worth it, friend. Let’s kick the enemy of your soul to the curb and invite grace, peace, purpose and joy to pull up a seat to your table.
I can’t wait to get started with you tomorrow, sweet friend.
