So, as much as my hubby and I love to get out for a fun date night on the town, more often than not we spend our quality time together at home. There are so many good reasons to learn to cherish and enjoy spending time with your spouse in the comfort of the home you’ve built together. Plus…..pants are optional and it’s not considered PDA if you’re not in public 😉
But, let’s get real. Eating pizza, drinking wine and watching Netflix on repeat can get a little old after awhile (at least, that’s what I’ve been told!) So, to challenge myself and YOU to spice up our at-home date nights a bit, here’s a list of some fun new ideas to try!
1. Play “He Said, She Said”
This fun little idea was inspired by the classic Newlywed Game. Grab a couple of pens and pieces of paper. Pull up or print out this list of questions. Set a timer for 10 minutes, go through each question and and write down how you think your spouse will answer. When time is up, take turns reading your answers aloud to see how well you really know each other! Whoever “wins” with the most questions answered correctly at the end gets to choose how to finish the date night 😉
2. Living Room Floor Picnic
Gather some of your favorite foods and drinks, spread a big blanket on the floor in your living room and set up a fun picnic!
Turn off the lights and light some candles, play some fun music or put on a favorite movie while you enjoy bringing this favorite outdoor pastime inside and mixing things up with your lover!
You could even take it a step further and set up a makeshift ‘tent’ and camp out in your living room for the night! Have fun and get creative with this one.
3. Couples Home Spa
Start by drawing a nice, hot bath filled with your favorite essential oils or bath salts. Place several lit candles all over your bathroom counters and play some relaxing music on your phone. Climb in together to enjoy feeling the day’s stress melt away.
When you’re done, dry off and slip into a plush robe or your comfiest pajamas. Relocate to your bedroom and get set up to take turns giving each other massages. Using a light, silky oil (I like coconut oil) helps eliminate friction as you rub your partner down, enabling you to expend less energy and give your spouse a better massage. You can mix in a few drops of your favorite essential oils for added relaxation and health benefits.
When you’ve both finished your massages make yourselves nice hot cups of decaf coffee or tea and enjoy snuggling the rest of your night away!
4. Play Teacher
Think of something that you each do really well and spend an evening teaching each other your skills! Whether he teaches you how to change a tire or the mechanics of football, or you teach him some yoga or how to bake your famous chocolate chip cookies, there’s bound to be lots of things you can learn from each other, and you can have a blast doing it together!
5. Dream Up Your Bucket List
You probably both have your own bucket lists for your lives saved somewhere in your brains, but why not work on creating one together? Spend an evening sharing your hearts and your dreams and put your joint bucket list down in writing.
Even better? Frame it once you’re done and hang it somewhere where you can be inspired to actually check some things off your list together.
