The changing of the leaves and cooling down temperatures always bring a sense of wonder and excitement each year. New seasons feel like a chance to start over again, and move into something fresh and new.
I am a big believer in taking advantage of each season with the ones you love most, and there is something magical about enjoying the fall season with your sweetheart. Here are a few fun date ideas to enjoy some quality time with your guy!
Take a fall foliage drive
Easy, relaxing, enjoyable and cheap! Plan a few hours one day to drive somewhere the leaves will be in full color and, make it like a mini-roadtrip! Stop at a gas station on the way out to stock up on a few of your favorite snacks, put together a good fall road trip playlist and make sure to have your camera at the ready! If you’re anything like my husband and me, you may need to record a spontaneous Backstreet Boys karaoke concert 😉
Go apple picking
This is something we usually do as a family activity now, but it would be so much fun to do as just a couple! Find a local apple orchard that’s within a few hours’ driving distance and enjoy walking through the orchard hand in hand, scavenger hunting for the best apples, sipping fresh apple cider and devouring homemade apple donuts.
Stargaze with hot cocoa
Cue the classic romance movies! This is a fun one. Grab a big blanket or sleeping bag, bundle up and head outside to set up under the stars with cups of steamy hot cocoa. Kind of like camping, but just the fun parts without the commitment 😉 This is a great chance to slow down and enjoy just being together, appreciating the vastness of life and creation.
Get lost in a corn maze
It’s good to let your competitive spirit out every now and then as a couple! Find a local corn maze near you and head out for the night to wind and weave your way through together OR challenge each other to see who can get through the fastest! Loser has to drive home.
Tour a local vineyard
We did this last year in September, just as the leaves were beginning to change and had such an amazing time! We escaped for a few hours on a Saturday, left the kids with my mom, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery walking through the vineyard, and sampling and learning about the different wines, picking what we liked, what we didn’t and choosing a bottle to take home.
Make s’mores over a bonfire
To properly and fully enjoy fall, I highly recommend you invest in buying or building a fire pit in your backyard. It doesn’t have to be fancy! But there is just nothing quite like a good fall bonfire. For date night, grab graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows and enjoy sitting fireside while munching on some gooey, delicious treats.
Take a sunset bike ride
Grab your bikes (if you have them!) and hit the road one evening to enjoy the fall foliage around your neighborhood or town. If you’re close enough, you could stop in town at a local coffee shop to warm up and enjoy some conversation before the ride back home.
When Andrew and I were dating, we went pumpkin picking with my family and chose a pumpkin to carve together. I was responsible for drawing the design and he manned the actual carving (because pumpkin guts = EWW!) I am going on the record as saying, that was the most EPIC pumpkin ever carved in history. Or, at least in our history 😉 Work together or carve your own individual pumpkins and display them on your porch for the season.
Play games by the fire
We are big game buffs and love to spend evenings playing our favorites. Fall ups the ante because we get to have game nights fireside! Lay out a big blanket, put your cozy pajamas on, make some hot cocoa and break out the games!
Take a hike
There’s nothing like getting out into nature with your guy in the fall to invigorate your senses and make you feel like you’re on top of the world. Find somewhere you’ve never been before and set out on an adventure together. Be sure to bring snacks, dress in layers and wear comfy shoes!Check out these fun fall date ideas from @thehomelovingwife! Click To Tweet
